Yes, I fixed it. First off, you need to reset your system again. When you
go to do this, unplug your modem, so there will be no dynamic update. Boot
off the CD, and be sure to take the option to delete the partition, and start
fresh. (Oddly enough, after 3 resets, and doing the 4th one without the
modem on, I completed the installation in about 20% of the time it took for
the other 3...) I then installed NO drivers or software whatsoever. I
turned on the firewall, rebooted, and went straight to windows update.
Somewhere there, you'll see options to configure auto-update. I DLed the
software for it, but had it turned completely off. I did all the critical
updates first, then the optional ones.
Everything went in fine, and I'm just about to go install the rest of my
software, starting with the AV, and then taking it from there.
