All Folders Marked "Read Only"

I've discovered in Vista that all my folders are marked read only. This is
bothersome being that in the past I've used bat files to copy specific files
to another area of my current hard drive and my external H.D. Being that the
folders are read only I can no longer do this in Vista. How can I take away
the "read only" attribute permanently? Using "properities" of the folders
and unchecking and pressing apply does not work. Thank you for any
suggstions.

Hi Lee,

Maybe you never checked prior to Vista, but it's the same in XP (right
click on a folder and check Properties).

If a user has permissions to a folder, you don't have to worry about
what you "see".

An easy way to see the "real" attributes of a folder is to add the
Attributes column in Windows Explorer.
Note that, too, setting a folder to Read-only using the Properties dialog
makes all the files in the folder read-only. Checking or un-checking
Read-only does not affect the folder itself.

Hi, Lee.

As Terry said, this is now "normal".

You might want to read this KB article:
You Cannot View or Change the Read-Only or System Attribute of Folders
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;326549

It doesn’t mention Vista, but I'm pretty sure it applies.
