All messenger content gone missing

Hello, I have the following problem, well a friend of mine has the problem,
you see, all was working fine on her laptop with Windows Vista, she went to
take a nap leaving the laptop on and the messenger only, during her nap her
internet connection dropped off and when she returned and got online in the
Windows Live Messenger all the content except the default emoticons was gone
missing, even the winks, backgrounds and display pictures that come with the
WLM.

Also on the change display picture the option that says Don't show a picture
is clicked and grayed out, another thing I noticed (we did a remote
assistance session) when I clicked on the buttons to use emoticons, winks and
backgrounds and they open the little menu with the last emoticons, winks and
backgrounds you used, the offers above them to get new ones aren't showing
neither, only one or two appear but the rest doesn't appears, if I click on
more to open say the winks site that opens on a little window, the site it
never opens just stays on that little animation signaling is loading.

Also when I clicked on the offers that are visible which were some free ones
and tried to install them I got an error saying they couldn't be installed.

On her normal browser we can open websites, the file transfer of the
messenger also works, she sent me some screenshots without problem.

I tried everything, uninstall, deleting registry settings and reinstall,
previous backup of her content since the content physically is there, I used
an utility to back it up without problems, I even used System Restore and
nothing.

Please any help you can give me will be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

Have you tried the simpliest of all fixes?

Sign out of Windows Live Messenger and sign back in? Was the computer
rebooted before you uninstalled and use System Restore to test / check
operations before you did everything?

Seems to me that lots of people do what is more difficult first, instead
of trying the simpliest of approaches, first.

Yes I did that, but I'm thinking that maybe it also has to do with their
internet connection, call me crazy but my friend actually girlfriend told me
that the same happened to her sister on her own computer both live in the
same house and use the same internet connection, the problem started after
the connection dropped off and then returned, so what's the odds that two
people on the same house on different computers got exactly the same problem?
mostly when even the content that comes with the msn can't be accessed as
well?

What is more, the offers you see when you click on the button to add a
smilie, wink or background aren't showing neither, just two and if I click on
them it looks like they gonna install but no, I end getting a message that
the content couldn't be installed.

Hi Daniel,

Is there a Router involved? Is the Date and Time on the Router set to
the correct Date and Time? Is UPnP enabled on the Router? Is the Universal
Plug and Play Device Host Startup Type set to Automatic in Services?

There must be one since another friend of hers made a little network there
for three computers, but I don't know if also her internet modem can be
altered by the internet provider, you see the internet provider put the modem
is an external one

The UPnP seems to be active since the msn on the connection info says she is
connected through a UPnP port restricted NAT (User)
