All of my music has misteriously disappeared in my windows mediacenter music library

I spent hours ripping cd's into my Windows Media Center muic library
and I've enjoyed listening to them on a daily basis until recently
when a message is being displayed saying "There are no items in this
library yet - Windows Media Center is searching for media files in the
background...." What has gone wrong and how do I restore my library?
