Hi,
I just noticed on my win xp sp1 computer that all of the Microsoft updates
I had installed since 7-30-2004 have failed!! Today I had to reinstall my IE6
SP1 due to font corruptions. This was successful in correcting that problem.
The reinstall was done, as advised, in an unusual way as the sfc\ scannow and
re-registering of the many *.dll, files failed to correct the font issue.
Also the reinstall of a new downloaded version of IE6 SP1 was not able to be
installed due to an error displaying that the files on my current installed
IE6 SP1 were newer than the version downloaded, so no installation could
proceed.
Therefore, I was told, to circumvent this, I should do the following which
worked:
1) find the IE.INF file on my HD.
2) rt. click it and choose the install option from the context menu.
3) Everything went smooth from that point and the "re-install" succeeded
using my original version.
After rebooting, I was told to go to the Microsoft Update site and have my
computer auto-detected for what critical updates were needed. I downloaded
and had them installed. I then checked my history of updates downloaded for
this computer and learned of their failures since 7-30-04 including today's!!
One other problem, which was supposed to be corrected by the new Ie6 SP1
re-installation, was the corrupt fonts that were seen in MSN after logging in.
Now, I can't even get logged in to my MSN account due to some unknown error
telling me to try back later as either my computer or their server was unable
to log me in, as in the past!
Did my re-install of Ie6 SP1 mess up my ability to access MSN? Is it also
why my download of updates have failed to be installed?
Please help me with the update failure issue and instruct me how to rectify
my MSN access.
Should I uninstall MSN6 and then Re-install it?
Thank you very much for any help you may offer !!!
Sincerely,
M.Stone
Ps. I can access MSN using other computers in my network. So the IE6 SP1
re-install must have created the MSN problem?
PPs. I think I have a restore point prior to the re-installation of IE6 SP1?
Do you think I should use it? I will definitely wait for your reply...ThankS
SO MUCH!!!
