Howdy Steve,
My AV is McAfee version 8. It's not the online version that you have (I think).
Mine has no problem doing its updates in auto mode.
Does this pc use the Windows firewall? or does it have a 3rd-party firewall? which one & what version?
We have all read of so many blockage issues with Norton Internet Security --- but that one & the others are curable by digging down into the product and doing the right "exclusion" or tweak.
If not firewall, it may be an issue of free space on HD....or something else.
Have you disabled any Windows services?
This is on XP SP2, right?
