Ever since I installed Windows Live Messenger from 7.5 I have been having a
number of problems. One, I am unable to see peoples display pictures about
80% of the time and when I can see it it is only for select people and I can
always see theirs in a message window but never in my main contact list for
the small icon of their display picture. I am unable to view unique
emoticons that other people have added to messenger. The emoticon is sent but
a blank space about the size of a smiley face is left and I cannot see what
it looks like.
Transfering files works intermittently at best, about 50% of the time my
friends will not even see the option of the file transfer. And about 50% of
the time they do the file will not upload to them or if it does it moves
extremely slowly. Which is a problem because despite the service status being
at normal I continually lose the connection to my Live Messenger after I send
my first message out after I sign in to a new friend, and this of coarse
cancels any transfers.
Finally, I've been having the 'Messages are not going through" problem
posted on another thread in that I appear to be unable to send messages
consistently. This last problem only started in the last day or two and has
consistently been giving me "Unable to send" message syntax to people that I
initiate conversations with. Notably it has been more difficult for me to
converse with people who are geographically close to me and have little
problems with people who are thousands of miles away. I found that I was
able to break through the 'unable to send' message once by sending a
background to share with one friend and a picture to them later as after
about five minutes or so of inactivity in the window I am unable to send them
a message, again. This is extremely frustrating. I would like to COMPLETELY
uninstall Windows Live Messenger, all it's components, it's registry keys,
and any other thing that's even remotely store anything to do with Live
Messenger, but you all know how difficult that can be.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. I have tried uninstalling and
installing messenger 7.5, I had the same problems. I returned to Windows Live
Messenger, same problems. Frankly, I would like to use Live, if it would
ever decide to work like it's supposed to or if I could get some personal
support with my numerous problems with this program. I have Live 8.1, am
running Windows XP Pro, and am certain that my firewall is not interfering as
I have the same problems with my firewall completely turned off.
