I am trying to update pc's at work. All are using XP with
SP1. Can't use SP2 as RAM is only 128Mb. Have copied new
update software to HDD and installed. Windows Update
produces a list of updates for downloading but all fail
to download. WindowsUpdate.log has following
message "Download job failed because of proxy auth or
server auth." Is there a know tweak or fix for this
problem - either in Windows XP or MS Proxy 2?

Any suggestions please.

Hi

I would think configuring your proxy server to allow anonymous
access to the relevant Windows Update sites is what you need to do.

More about this here:

Don't know if this will help or not, but we had something
similar here at work and our fix was to download BITS
manually from the web and install it, after that we could
run Windows Update fine.
