All Windows Scroll to Bottom of Page/Pane

Hi,

I have a couple of sudden, strange problems:

1. If in any program where a pane's contents are more than fits in the
visible pane, it automatically scrolls all the way down. If I drag the
scroll bar to the top, it again moves all the way down.
2. I'm entering this message via Windows Mail. I tried using IE, but in
addition to having problem 1 above, when I try to sign into my passport, as
soon as I try typing in my password, it will switch windows back to the one
where I had opened the MS Vista forum page.

I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1. Please help as I cannot get anything done
while Vista is behaving this way.

If this survives a restart, you should try SFC

I wonder if the down arrow key is stuck on your keyboard. Or maybe Page
Down, or perhaps a dodgy touchpad if it's a laptop.

I am having this same problem but I'm not sure which update has cause
the scrolling to the bottom of the window. How do I identify whic
update caused the problem

I have this same problem, and it's driving me mad. This is a brand new
computer with a newly installed operating system and a brand new mouse. It is
not a stuck key. It is not a faulty mouse. It is not a virus.

I've seen complaints about this all over the internet, and not a single
solution. I just see the same WRONG suggestions - your key is stuck, your
mouse is bad, your computer has a virus. NONE of these is the solution.

It happens intermittantly for no reason I can see, and the only way to stop
it is to reboot. Every window scrolls HARD down to the bottom and the
computer becomes unusable.

What is the solution? There is a bug somewhere. Is there a workaround? Can
someone report this and fix it? I'm running 64-bit Vista.

Someone on Facebook suggested to me that it was a problem with the Thinkpad's
touchpad (or possibly the virtual scrolling feature of the touchpad). I just
disabled the touchpad, and I'll see how it goes!

It did occur to me that it was a browser issue because it always seemed to
happen first in the browser. I switched to Google Chrome and it didn't help.
Might be interesting to try Firefox. Though if I try too many things at once
(already turned off the touchpad), I won't know what fixed it.

to try one thing at a time so I know what's causing what.

The IE engine is also used in Outlook, so I'm not sure how much it will help
me to dump IE. Do you use Outlook?

I'm not using either WinAmp or iTunes. Just Windows Media Player. I don't
even have all my software installed on this system yet because it's so new.

If the problem was with the IE component, you'd still have problems because
you run Outlook, which uses IE as a component internally. Might be something
else you were using.

And it may very well be that more than one app can cause the problem - might
be some internal API call that different apps use.

I'm still hoping it was my touchpad and the problem is gone. Time will tell.

I had the same problem with my notebook, and I had solved the proble
(only for notebook). It is indeed the problem of the Touchpad; you ca
even reproduce the problem by scrolling the Touchpad virtual vertica
scroll (the vertical right area of the Touchpad) using your finge
stroking down this area, then you will have this problem (i.e. windo
always scroll to bottom, after you use your mouse to move the vertica
scroll bar to the top). To solve this problem, just tap on the Touchpa
again

Try it, if it still doesn't solve your problem, then it could b
problem with other input devices, like the mouse, keyboard or eve
faulty USB hub as was reported by others
