ALL XP UPDATES SINCE SP2 RELEASED

To All Who Can Help,

I would like to install all of the XP updates released since I slipstreamed
SP2,
circa 9/21/04. However, my fielded pc's are not (and will not be) connected to
the internet.

In an effort to retain configuration control, I would like to put all the
updates
onto a removable media, so that I can a) bring all the fielded computers up to
the same level as b) deliver any pc's I create from here on out with the same
update set.

Merely making one pc accessible to the internet temporarily to upgrade an
image
will not work because I cannot restore the fielded testers using an image They
must retain all their data.

Does anyone know how I can go about this ?

Please advise.

Sincerely,
Michael Flannigan

themorus,

Give this a whirl - http://www.autopatcher.com/
The site is "under contruction", so here's the forums link, too:

Michael,

Getting all the updates since SP2 is no problem.
Putting them all on their own CD/DVD is no problem.
Integrating them into a new Windows XP CD for new installs is no problem.

There's 83 of them and where to get them.
Although finding all those (a list of and where to get them) should be
elementary for a system admin.
Good luck!

Hi Mow
Reading this thread reminded me of a question I have meant to ask for some
time now.
If one has a computer, running very early WIN XP SP1, and you have never
connected to the net and never will, is there a need to get SP2 and all
those 70-80 critical updates?
It is used to just transfer hundreds of cassette tapes and records to CD's,
and clerical work.
Now I have written it, it sounds a stupid question :-)

Only if something you wish to install on the computer requires an update
(such as SP2) would you *have* to worry about updating such a machine.
Otherwise - you could probably get away without even SP1.

Hi Shenan
Thank you for confirming that - I will pass on that information - I know
that over the years they have updated/upgraded their photo and cd/dvd
software, new scanners and printers and their computer has not lost a beat.

Mr. Stanley,

This is very helpful. However, I still have a couple of questions; maybe you
can
help me further ?

1) How did you compile this list ? (I have been navigating the Updates sites
and
although I can get to these links, i cannot seem to find a
"clearinghouse" for
all these updates (as they're broken into the different categories))

2) I see that many of them are executables (as opposed to outright files
that would
sit on the target system, necessarily). The problem this poses for me is
with my
already fielded systems, where I would require the technicians at the
sites to
run setup after setup. Ideally, I would like to know the installed
files, so that
perhaps I could use an installshield or zip/unzip type of method to
place them on
the targets. Perhaps this is not only a lot to ask, but also
impractical, if not
impossible, assuming registry changes occur with many of these.

Please Advise.

Thanks Again (and I apologize for appearing somewhat ignorant ; I am not a
systems administrator. I work for a small company and have limitied
experience in
creating systems)

SHUTDOWN -r -t 20 -f

make sure you put the three "installers" referenced in installers.cmd
in the C:\Downloads\XPupdates\installers folder just to keep them
seperate from the updates

make sure you have qchain.exe AND all of your updates, in your
C:\Downloads\XPupdates folder
