Greetings JC,
There's already some good responses here to your question, but just to add; in some minor
cases Messenger won't automatically connect you if it can't find a network connection when
your machine starts up (for instance, if you have login to a VPN, or something similar). In
which case you may want to manually start Messenger after you've connected to that, assuming
you were just having it start when you log in to Windows.
