almost anything i do causes windows explorer to restart

i dont know how long this has been happening for
but any time i try to copy and paste anything
drag and drop, delete, compress, or uninstall any program windows
explorer along with whatever program i was working in shuts down and
windows explorer restarts...
any suggestions as to what i should do
i've run a virus scan and everything is clear...

How long has it been happening?
Did you install anything just prior to this starting?
Maybe a driver or Windows update?
Do you have a system restore point at a time before the problem started?
I would suspect a 1) driver issue or 2) a hardware issue.
Without knowing what hardware/software you are running, it's tough to guess.
