Alternate Browser

If one were to use an alternate browser Firefox) in place of IE, would
Automatic Updates operate in the background, or would you have to activate
IE and link to Windows Update? I can't find any reference to this in
Knowledge Bases.

I do not believe IE has much (if anything) to do with Automatic Updates.

You cannot, however, use http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ from another
browser.
