Alternate DNS does not get queried

A Vista workstation was analized with sniffer and when name was not resolved
by the preferred DNS server, the query is not made to the alternate.

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.

As far as I understand it, the Alternate DNS is queried only of th
Primary DNS itself could not be located (for example, if it's offline)
Since the Primary could be found in your case, then there would be n
need to query the Alternate, even if the Primary cannot resolve a hos
name into an IP address..

That is the way it works on Windows. If the first DNS server is up and
cannot resolve the address that's where it stops. The alternate only gets
queried if the first DNS server does not respond at all.

Pretty sure when I did the same test on Linux, it does continue down the
list if the first box can't resolve the address.
