The Always ask before opening this type of file check box is not available
when downloading files. How can I get it to show? We're using IE Ver. 6

What operating system?
What file type?

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Windows Explorer-View-Folder Options
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Hi,
You have to set this option for each file type and the route to Folder
options> File types will be slightly different, depending on your OS:

From Windows Explorer> View> Folder options> File types
OR Explorer> Tools> Folder options> File types
OR Ctrl Panel> Folder options then File Types. Select [file type]> Advanced.
Put a check by "Confirm open after download."
You should then get the "Open or Save" dialog for each download.

Hope this helps,
Don

Restore the "Always Ask Before Opening This Type of File" Prompt

Open the Run box and enter, one at a time:

reg.exe delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentE xecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" /va /f

reg.exe delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentE xecute\{DEEAA3EC-685F-46AE-8110-8D39A0556B78}" /va /f
