I did my microsoft update and it gave me that I had one update so I
downloaded it ...now I have an icon on the tool bar that when you place the
mouse on it it says remove hardware safely... it all has to do with NVIDIA n
Force Serial ATA Controller.. I went to the last updates to see if I can
uninstall it and it doesn't show up on the list..does anyone have any ideas
on how to get this off my computer? I am not going to just down load every
update microsoft tells me to do...

You shouldnt be using winupdate for hw drivers, configure winupdate for
critical updates only.
By design a sata disk is hotswapable, therefore it may appear as a removable
device. However you cannot remove a system drive, if thats what yours is,
with the applet.
You could try visiting your motherboard site and upgrading to the correct
drivers designed for your system. This 'may' correct the issue.

I had the same thing occur on both of my Vista PC's after installing the MS
Update for the Nvidia nForce SATA Driver. What I did go was to rollback the
driver for the NVidia SATA Controller in the Device Manager.

At least this gets rid of that Safely Remove Hardware Icon on the Taskbar.

Now, it may be that I/we need this new Nvidia SATA Driver to prevent other
problems but for the time being rolling it back seems to be the best fix as
far as I can tell.

Anyone else have thought on this?

Thanks--

Hi there,

Yes i do

If your Sata devices are working fine leave them be just working fine, what
is the use of updating a driver if the hardwarework fine? Why taking the
risk of something not broken to break?

Best regards,
Michel Denie

That's certainly good advice I usually follow that advice but in this
case I was trying to understand a BSOD (my very first with Vista) and my
research pointed to a posssible SATA controller driver (nvstor.sys driver),
so I gave this new SATA driver a go....

But, your advice is still very valid even though the questions on this
MS Updated SATA driver remain

Hi there,

It is best not to take any driver updates from MS and to take a driver
update if needed from the manufacturers website in this case Nvidia.

Best regards,
Michel Denie
