I am not able to use the save as button or the save button.

When I download a file and press the save button the computer will hang up.
When I try to use the save as option on some programs but not all it will
hang.
I also cannot use the browse button on several programs, including windows
installer. The program will shut down and close then send an error report.
I beleave that the problems are all linked.

First, be sure to specify which version / edition of Windows this is. The remedies for your Save issues likely calls for an Operating system specific fix.
You also need to list which programs have a problem with the "browse button", and really clarify if this is all during "setup / install" of these programs.

This particular group is for issues with Windows Update.

I would point you to a more O.S. specific "general newsgroup".

If you have Windows XP, make use of the "newusers" group.
Otherwise, see a group for your particular edition of Windows.

for Windows XP:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers

For Windows 98 : microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion

for Windows Me :
microsoft.public.windowsme.general

Make a new post with details into one of these corresponding groups.
