Something is seriously wrong. I am trying to update my PC using Microsoft
Update. When I do I receive the message: Install the ActiveX control
required to view the website. The website will not display correctly on your
computer without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just
below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

Well, this is my problem. I do not receive the usual drop-down below the
address bar that allows me to click Install ActiveX Control. I have reset my
Internet security to the default Medium and have even made sure that ACtiveX
controls are ENABLED as instructed. I believe this is a result of some type
of spyware but I have downloaded and run both Spybot and adaware with still
the same result. I could go on with all that I have tried to resolve this
issue but I would be typing for a long time. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance.

Ryan.

Download the file OLEfix.zip available here (it is a registry file
that origin from MS Support, and it has fixed the ActiveX problem
for several people runinng into this problem after installing KB896688
(and its successors) and is based on
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889 - even before the article has
been released):

http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip

Extract it and double click the contained OLE_fix.reg file. Click Yes
on the dialog box that asks you if you are sure to add the information
in OLE_fix.reg to the registry.

You may have to reboot your machine afterwards.

Freudi
