I could just discard this garbage and buy something more suitable,
but I keep thinking that I must be missing something important,
if a giant corporation like MS is willing to put their name to WLM,
which it seems to me can't even do what I did with Forte-Agent
pre-1995.

OTOH I appreciate as was pointed out that it's designed for LIVE.
So that's for people who have an always-on connection?

Does that mean it's only for toddlers or TV-shopping mentality users
who, when they see something they like the look of, can immediately
grab it and suck-on-it?

Ie. the don't [because WLM can't]
- search through lists of headers,
- mark potentially interesting headers to fetch the matching articles
articles
NEXT TIME on line;
- have the system KEEP TRACK OF which articles were [previously] tagged
and which of the articles [which were in the forgotten passed] have now
been fetched.

Can WLM do that?

If not, it's little wonder that USEnet has been replaced by far inferior
blogs.

== TIA.

Buy?

Why, when there's hundreds of far better free alternatives.

- No, it operates in Online and Offline mode. As noted design intent is for
use with a Live ID signon to Windows Live Services and other Live
applications and Live services (Messenger, SkyDrive, Contacts, Calendar,
Photo Email to SkyDrive -10GB max upload of 200 pics/max 50MB each, Hotmail
type accounts )

- The seminal point of MSFT no longer supporting USEnet was in 2006 when
development ceased for OE and WM and round tripped in July 2010 when MSFT
started to shutdown newsgroups on it msnews server finally turning the
lights out in Oct. 2010. Newsgroups like this one are only available
because they still reside on other non MSFT servers.
- Next time ? Doubtful there is a next time, the one billion combined
Hotmail and Messenger users drive the Live program and anything not Live
related is 'way down' the bottom of the list of priorities.

It is what it is. Other mail and news clients are freely available.
