Hi Everyone,

Well I tried everything you said create a LIVE MAIL account and put
addresses in there then sign into Live Mail.

Still ZILCH. NO ADDRESSES will show in the addressbook even signing into WLM
email account where I have all her email addresses stored.

When you log in with the WINDOWS LIVE MAIL passport... It says
**********@live.com has no contacts try adding contacts or signing in as
someone else.

I took some screenshots while I was over there and this is what I see when
im on her PC.

I hope this is an easy fix!

http://img24.imageshack.us/i/46514362.jpg/

Now I did notice I have something she doesn't have....... I have ACTIVE
DIRECTORY and VERISIGN as contact directories.. She only has Verisign...
hmmm.. Interesting.

Here is Mine:

So Basically what I am saying is.....

When I go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > CONNECTION > SIGN IN

********@live.com

PASSWORDHERE

it then instantly click on the LEFT below CALENDAR where it says CONTACTS

that's where I see in a yellow bar ********@Live.com has no contacts try
adding a contact or signing in as someone else.

Why are you going to TOOLS > OPTIONS > CONNECTION > SIGN IN when all you
have to do is click Sign in below the Close X?

Are you able to login to contacts.live.com with the ********@Live.com
address?
After I added the birth year, I was able to log in.

Did you export the contacts from the Address Book as a csv file?

Did you log in to contacts.live.com and import the csv file?

You do not have to add a live email account. You just have to sign in after
you have imported the contacts.

Please stop starting a new thread for the same problem.

Was hoping to avoid it adding the email address to WLM but it did
anyways..... going though CONNECTIONS.

>>>>>>are u able to login to contacts.live.com with the ********@Live.com

YES... And all the contacts are there

Yes, and tried to import them into WLM ( email client ) and they never
stuck.

>>>>>Did you log in to contacts.live.com and import the csv file?<<<<<<<<<<

No, the addresses are there.... Already.. Where I typed each one in...

>>>>Please stop starting a new thread for the same problem.<<<

I tried posting back on the same thing and no one ever replied back to me..
I sat there after you answered me and replied back to you and no one ever
came back to me I waited almost 2 days.... So I started a new thread and
someone got back to me

if someone can merge them that would be swell

I just wonder if it is because she's missing that ACTIVE DIRECTORY under
CONTACTS

under TOOLS > ACCOUNTS

if I could reconfigure that somehow you think the address book would finally
work?

My "Contacts Directory" has the following:

| Active Directory
| NULL

| Bigfoot Internet Directory Service
| ldap.bigfoot.com

| Verisign Internet Directory
| Service

| WhoWhere Internet Directory
| Service

I am signed in with a Windows Live ID in a third party domain. I've only got
31 contacts in that contact list; those would be the same as in my Windows
Live Messenger Contact List.

When I change my Windows Live sign in to a Hotmail account, my Contacts List
changes to 181 contacts.

Christopher, you're making it very difficult for people to help you
because there are so many threads dealing with the same problem.
People like Winston and Ron are contributing to many different
threads each day, and it's impossible for them to remember the
details of each one. That's why it's important to (a) stick to the
same thread for the same problem, (b) leave at least the relevant
bits of previous posts in your reply, and (c) start a new thread for
a new problem. You may not get an immediate response; remember that
people who post here are scattered all over the world, and you may
be posting just as Ron's going to bed in New Zealand. He might not
see your post until twelve hours later. If he then has to test
something so that he can advise you properly, he might not be able
to respond until after you've gone to bed again.

We've now got to the stage where we've forgotten what you're trying
to do and what you've done so far. Let's clear the air a bit.
1. Contacts are associated with a Live ID. If you *sign in* with a
Live ID (and it's easiest to do this using the field at the top
right-hand corner of the main screen), then the Contacts window will
show the list of contacts associated with that Live ID.
2. When you sign in with a Live ID for the first time, WLMail will
try and synchronize your local contacts list with the one available
at contacts.live.com for that same Live ID. This may take some time
(a few hours), particularly with a new ID. If you turn on logging by
ticking all the boxes under 'Troubleshooting' at [Tools >] Options >
Advanced > Maintenance, the log file will tell you how the sync is
doing and if there are any problems with it.
3. The screen shots you posted of your aunt's accounts show that she
now has two email accounts set up, for AOL and live.com. You wrote
earlier that she didn't want a Live (=Hotmail) email account, so I'm
not quite sure why you set that up for her. Just remove it. (It
didn't get there by itself, whatever you say.)
4. The plan that you and Winston worked out was to set up a Live ID
using the Earthlink address that came with your aunt's ISP
subscription. It's not clear to me whether this was successful. She
should get a confirmation email from Live ID to that Earthlink
address. It should be possible to see this email and reply to it at
Earthlink's webmail site, so there's no need to set up the account
in WLMail and confuse her still more.

Her contact list should then be imported into contacts.live.com
using the Earthlink Live ID. Then, when she signs in in WLMail with
the Earthlink Live ID, those contacts will synchronize with her
local list, and she can forget all about Earthlink. If you cancelled
the Earthlink Live ID for some reason and decided to use a live.com
Live ID instead, then the same applies.
5. The Contacts Directory accounts you see in the accounts list are
put there by WLMail. The Active Directory one you have is there
because WLMail detected that your machine is, or has been, connected
to a domain. Unless you want to access contacts maintained on that
domain server, just remove the account. The Verizon one makes it
possible to check email addresses against Verizon's listings. I
can't imagine that either you or your aunt will ever use this - you
get email addresses from other sources, like emails you receive or
ones given on websites. Again, I would remove that Verizon account.

Now, with a little bit of discipline and persistence, we might
collectively be able to get this sorted out.

WLM will use contacts from either the default contacts or Live ID contacts.
If it says Sign in under the Close X, then WLM is using the default
contacts.
The Live ID has to be showing under the Close X for WLM to use the LIVE ID
contacts. You can have different contacts by being logged in with a
different Live ID. The Calendar used also depends on being signed in or not
signed in.
When you open Contacts, the Title bar says Windows Live Contacts for the
default contacts and says Windows Live Contacts (for Live ID) when you are
signed in.

Being signed in and having a live address under Tools, Accounts are two
different things.
You can setup a Live account and get email from that account without signing
in to a Live ID.

If you Tools, Options, Connections, Stop signing in, WLM will stop the sign
in and will open without being signed in. Is this what happens for you?

Can you add an address to the default contacts?

OK, LETS GO BACK......

1> I created the LIVE ACCOUNT because when I signed her up with the
EARTHLINK ID as her passport, it just gave me an error message when I went
to CONTACTS.LIVE.COM and tried to sign in SAYING hey you don't have access
there.. So I created a Live account and put all of her contacts there. So I
was kinda forced to do that.

2> And yes, it did add the @LIVE.COM account to the email accounts list ON
ITS OWN.. When I went to TOOLS > OPTIONS > CONNECTION> SIGN IN and put in
her live address YES, it did automatically add that account to the list. I
then deleted it out. It didn't populate any emails because I had to download
the folder list but yes, it did put the account on the list of accounts.

3> I did hit DOWNLOAD FOLDERS: and I let it populate the live mail INBOX
FOLDER, SPAM FOLDER etc.. and let it sync the Live account, but to no avail
there was NO contacts in the contacts area of WINDOWS LIVE MAIL.

I WAITED 5 MIN.....

So basically it comes down to this:

I cannot get WINDOWS LIVE MAIL ( the email client ) to show any addresses.
and if I am not signed into an account ( just using the default address
book ) when I go to put in an address and save it, and then close WLM and
come back 5 min later.... its empty... It deleted what I punched in....

So no matter what I do...... If I am using the DEFAULT address book.... It
deletes the CONTACTS
and if I use the @LIVE.COM account it just states *********@live.com has no
addresses and to please sign in or add someone. ( yet when I went to
CONTACTS.LIVE.COM and signed in as the LIVE email address THERE IS contacts
in there.

I am going back over there tommorrow if I cant get this fixed I will be
forced to install Outlook and HOPE LIKE H*ll I can import all of her emails
over to OL 2003.

And for the reason of NO reply at the bottom of what was said before, I had
that turned off because it kept messing up my signture for my @LIVE.COM
account
( See post by me called Signature keeps defaulting to Top )

Christopher
