Animated gif compatibility?

When will it be possible for animated gif images to be used as display
pictures?
You'd think that with all of this improvement since MSN 4.7 (or whatever it
was), the developers would be able to make them compatible!

It won't be. It's something that gets suggested every beta. I forget the
reasoning behind it now, but unfortunately, it doesn't look likely.
