ANNOYING ActiveSync bug!

Every so often (about once a week) ActiveSync (v4.5) suddenly terminates
with an error message telling "There has been some change made on the
server that requires to resync all items. All data on your device will
be lost (or overwritten - not 100% sure how the exact msg. goes right
now)".

What the hell is causing this??? Not only is this error message most
fuzzy, it's almost always plainly wrong! There has been no such change
whatsoever!
It just happened again a few minutes ago. My PDA was sitting there
cradled next to my PC and I wasn't even doing anything neither on the
PDA nor in Outlook (I was hacking along in some Java IDE, i.e. 100%
unrelated!), when there was suddenly a beep on the PDA and when I looked
over it had that dreaded msg. again. Out of the blue!

If I click OK to the dialog, then ActiveSync will do some longish
process in which it apparently indeed retransfers ALL contacts,
calendar, task and email entries from the PC to the PDA again. What I
find so damned annoying about this is, that this process not only takes
pretty long (about 1/2 hour) during which period one can not use nor
take away the PDA without screwing things up even further) but that
resyncing ALL contacts has a couple of most annoying side effects on the
mobile, like all my defined favorite contacts and short dial numbers
being lost AGAIN! #@&^%!

Does anybody have some idea, what could be causing this and/or how to
override this and tell the PDA "No, there hasn't been any such change!
DO NOT resync but assume your ARE synced"?

Michael

Hello,

Can you provide a little more information please.

1. You are you synchronizing through your PC or over the air with your
Exchange server?
2. What version of Exchange is your server?
3. What device/WinMo version are you using?

If you are indeed going through your PC to synchronize your data, you could
try the following:

On your device got to Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC
Uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality" box
OK your way back to the Today screen.
Reconnect your device DIRECTLY to your PC (do not use a hub).

If this does not solve the issue (or you are unable to successfully sync),
soft reset your device then re-check the box I indicated above.

If you are synchronizing your data over-the-air with your Exchange server,
it is possible that your device's profile on your Exchange server is the
issue. On your device, remove the server settings in ActiveSync. Contact
your Exchange administrator and have them remove your device profiles on the
server (you can do this yourself if your are on Exchange 2007 via OWA).
Once this is done, re-enter the server information in ActiveSync on the
device and have it synchronize.

It is possible that there are other solutions to this problem. These
however are the two most common that I see with this particular issue.

Regards,

Hi,
I do not know the cause of the issue of resynchronizing all data that you
described. At this point I would complain to your OEM and carrier and see
if you can get some results from them.

This bug is widespread I know at least amongst Windows Mobile users synching
Outlook folders with subfolders. Not sure if it also is specific to HTC
devices as it did it on both my 8525 Tilt, and now on my Fuze. IT IS A MAJOR
PAIN. AND EVEN MORE FRUSTRATING MICROSOFT HAS NOT SOLVED IT!!!

I have exactly the same problem with my new Xperia X1. I'm using Bluetooth,
not USB for my connection, so it's not even a USB-specific problem. Every so
often, it has to resync the lot, (and then I have to reset my speed-dials).
It's driving me nuts. Up to recently I owned an HP hx2190 pda running wm5,
and I never had this problem. Is the problem with wm6.1?
[My PC = XP Pro SP3, Outlook 2003.]
