The annoying persistence of 816093

Hi,

since I deinstalled the Microsoft Java VM and installed the Sun VM, I'm
constantly pestered by the Windows Auto-Update feature to install a
security patch called "816093: Security Update Microsoft VM".
(A quick research on Google told me that this patch dates back to 2004,
so this problem might have been discussed on this newsgroup already.)
Now, installing this "update" fails of course, because I do not have the
Microsoft VM anymore. It fails with nonexisting error message (an empty
message box), and forces me to reboot my computer. According to the KB
article, everything should be settled now.
But after rebooting, the nasty little critter is back again, and the
cycle starts anew. How can I get rid of this nag-ware? (Please don't
tell me to install Microsoft VM....)

Thanks in advance,
Juergen

P.S.: I'm using Genuine XP Prof with SP2.

Turn off Automatic Updates via the conrtrol panel using Auto Updates
is just asking for trouble even if its on "notify only" get rid of it,
update manually and selectively.

That should also stop the nagging but in order to disable the ensuing
"Auto Updates off" nagging turn off the security centre.

Start > Run > "services.msc" (without quotes) Enter

Scroll down to "security centre", double click the entry, stop the
service and set the startup type to disabled.

I assume you are switched on enough to check MSFT Updates and
Antivirus / Firewall updates yourself.
