Please try another attempt at updating.
If/when it fails, open the WindowsUpdate.log (WU.log)and copy&paste at
least the
*last* 50 or so lines of it into your next post:

It *sounds* like the latest release of the Windows Update Agent failed
to install properly thus the communication issue with the update
servers. Without seeing the WU.log, that's just an uneducated guess.
