My system has been doing the occasional strange thing so I ran
Memtest86 and discovered I was getting memory errors. I ended up
pulled out the faulty memory strip, reset the cmos and then started
the system back up. Some devices re-installed and then came the crash
with the blue screen. I figured out what caused the problem, enetered
safe mode and uninstalled the program. I have my system up and
running againg but with only 1GB of memory it looks a bit different, I
don't even get the Start button. I checked my computer properties to
see if there were any new problems only to discover I have 3 days to
ACTIVATE my system. Just what I need to finish my day.

Now I plan to get more memory because Vista with 1GB is slow as
molasses but I don't live in a BIG city and even if I order on Monday,
there is no way I can get it before the 3 days are up. Heck it will
probably take more than 3 days just to get the RMA. A big thank you
to Microsoft for being so generous by giving 3 days.

Al

Memory serves me correct, you get 30 days to activate. Is this a new system?
Why are you getting prompted to activate? Did you reinstall (Clean Install)
your OS?

Go ahead and activate it; but, take the phone option, and wait for a real
person to speak to you.
Explain what the problem is with changing RAM, and it will be OK.

Right click command prompt and click run as admin

copy

slmgr -rearm

paste into command prompt.

and hit the enter key.

After you see the confirmation box you can reboot your computer.

You now have thirty days before it has to be activated.

Ain't Microsoft's so called anti piracy programs grand? It must give you
that warm fuzzy feeling that Microsoft is protecting you from piracy,
right? If you're sick of this crap, check out Ubuntu at www.ubuntu.com.
It's a FREE operating system that comes with over 25,000 FREE programs
and requires no activation, becoming genuine or any of that nonsense. As
far as viruses and malware is concerned, it's BULLETPROOF compared to
Windows of any flavor.

No I did not re-install anything and right now it tell me I have 2
days to activate. I don't want to activate because it is starting to
look like after I get the new memory I may be looking a doing another
clean install and another activation. The system has two problem that
I don't know how to fix, the Start Button is square and the background
of the sidebar is white. I do now know what caused this and if it is
an indication of other problems that I don't know about.

Yes I know I can do that and it comes across a bit like begging, it is
not something I want to do often. If I have to do it I would rather
wait until after the new memory is installed and the system is
operating properly. Right now the system is showing a strange things
and I don't know if that is a problem that will go away when I replace
the memory or re-install the program I had to remove. I may have to
re-install the system to get it to work properly and then it will
require yet another activation call.

Thank you very much, that worked and I have 30 days to activate now.

Any idea why my Start Button is square now and the Sidebar has a white
background? The Taskbar colour is white too, it used to be black. I
may re-install a few things and hope things get back to normal.

Not spam but your sour grapes and jealously is noted by all as well as
the fact that you can only offer knee-jerk drivel and have no ability to
