Another Event Viewer bug...?

Or an unusual kind of feature [Vista HP]

Try this: view the System log and Filter it - first select All Sources, then
untick "volmgr" and "disk" - I get "One or more logs in the query have
errors [eh? It's perfectly happy with the logs as long as they aren't
filtered] Log: system Error: The specified query is invalid"...

Looks like there is an undocumented limit to how many Event Sources can be
specified in a query - so you can't (easily) look at the System log by
excluding e.g. a single source that is diluting everything else of
interest...

Thoughts?

It wasn't an entirely idle observation Mick, I was looking for a other
events buried in hundreds of "disk errors" due to a USB drive...

I just want to suppress one event type...
