Another example why Vista is a piece of crap

Never a dull day. As previously mentioned I have a lot of external
drives that I mount and unmount several times during the course of a
day. Now Vista has found a new way to annoy me. My Cannon MP600
printer also runs off a USB hub. Out of the blue, when unmounting a
external drive by clicking on the Safely Remove Icon on the Task bar
Vista brings up drive letter Y for the drive I want to mount but it
also asks if I want to unmount Drive J.

Well you damn dumb piece of ****. I don't have any drive J. Vista sees
my Canon printer and Vista being crap gave it a drive letter. Oh well
so what. I was able to unmount the actual drive without Vista nagging
further.

Just for kicks I looked in Windows Explorer to see how drive J was
listed if at all. Sure enough it's listed as a "removable disk".

Microsoft, you got to have some of the dumbest programmers on the
planet that your software can confuse a printer with a hard drive.
Well golly, according to Vista my printer under properties has zero
bytes used and zero bytes total. Maybe next Vista will ask if I want
to format my printer.

Vista should be smart enough to know the difference between printers
and memory cards. I guess not. The reason I brought it up was I was
trying to shut down the external drive Y. Vista claimed it "was in
use", it wasn't, and somehow must have got confused with the printer
still being on since both are on the same USB hub. I turned the
printer off, only then would Vista let me unmount the external drive
"safely". I normally don't have the printer on when accessing my
external drives so this is the first time I've seen this.

That's asking for trouble. You never know when Vista might query the
drive and if it happens to be in the process of reading or writing to
the drive when you attempt to unmount it you run a high risk of
corrupting some or all of the drive's contents.

Hey Alias

Something happened to this ng in the past couple of days. Frank, Da Lamb
Chop and Da Baboon do not seem to be hassling other posters when they wish
to express their views. What do you think is happening here?
