we currently have two forward lookup zones for our domain ex.
(mycompany.local) and (mycompany.com). One used for our internal domain and
one so internal users can access our websites internally. We just registered
another domain mycompany-abc.com and external users are able to connect to
the site but internal users cannot. Do I have to add another primary forward
lookup zone to translate that domain to our same internal website?

That is correct. Do it the same was as you did for mycompany.com.

Well there are programmatic ways, such as using a script with DNSCMD, but in your case, it would take longer to figure it out then simply manually creating it with the few A records you have to make.
