I installed Service Pack 2, then immediately after the installation Norton AV
did a full-system scan. It detected a threat and I followed its
instructions, which involved starting up in "Safe" mode. When I did that,
the computer went into a "loop" of 4 windows, and I couldn't get out. Even
turning it right off didn't change it. My computer has a built-in system
recovery and I was able to use that - it restores everything to factory
settings, but most data and files remain. It worked fine. Computer's fine.
BUT - I can't access Windows Updates now. I go to the website and it doesn't
tell me if updates are available, and the "history" part is grayed out. I
don't know if I've got any updates, if Service Pack 2 is still there, or if
I've been disconnected somehow from the whole service. Everything else on
the computer works normally, and every thing was fine until I installed
Service Pack 2. What do I do, now?

Please let me know what you find as the answer. I had
the same problem. Well Basically. Installed SP2 and the
computer would not restart. Just kept booting, got to
the windows welcome screen and it would reboot. Endless
cycle. Computer is now up and running except i can not
get windows update web site to work and I can not get MS
Office update web site to work. Please let me know if
you find the answer. I have not received one and I have
been asking and asking and asking. . . . .

thanks
