I currently run Windows XP Pro and wish to install Vista Home Premium. I
understand that going from XP Pro to Vista Home Premium is not an allowed
upgrade path. I want to purchase the upgrade version of Vista Home Premium
and do a clean install. Will I be able to use the upgrade version of Vista
for this purpose?

You can do a clean install without entering a product key by booting from
the disk. When it asks for a product key, press next and select Vista Home
Premium on the next page that appears.

Next, once Vista is installed, run the upgrade from inside Vista. You are
right, this is not exactly a clean install, but due to the new upgrade
mechanism, and the fact that it will be all new code, no old applications
installed to muck it up, it should provide as close to a clean install as
you can get.
