Another verify e-mail address problem

I decided to change the e-mail address I was using to sign in to Live
Messenger to another e-mail address of mine. I followed the links to do, and
it all seemed successful. I did get a warning in the end that some of my
contacts will look offline until they sign and in out again. Now, as soon as
I changed the e-mail address I could log on with the new e-mail address but
all of them are offline!
i asked my boyfriend to sign in and out to no avail.
1. the original e-mail address i used is a mailbox at my provider's that
comes with our adsl account
2. the one i changed it to is a freemail address that is set to
automatically forward mails to the provider's box
3. At the time I did the change the provider's Exchange was down.
4. Now it is back, the emails come alright.
5. I sign in to Live Messenger and get the little box to verify my e-mail
address
6. I go through the whole process but the e-mail never comes.

All my contacts are offline, except for 1 who just added me with the new
e-mail address. But I need my old friends too!

I opened a request on the Web-based support but I have no idea how to track
my ticket number.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

It can take up to 48-hours (usually less) before your new address propagates through the
network and your contacts appear online again. Although in some rare cases this doesn't
work, hopefully this won't be one of them...

John,

thank you for your reply. In the meantime, a nice lady called Cheryl has
contacted me from Support and had re-sent me the e-mail for verification and
that process went smoothly. Meaning I no longer get the you-need-to-confirm
message.

However, the contacts are still offline except for one who is a new friend
and has added me with the new e-mail address. But even with this contact,
when I chat with him, my messages have the header " says:"
even though he added me with the new one.

I looked at a PC that someone is using who used to have me on their contact
list before the change. I am offline on the contactlist - with the old
address. I asked them to sign in and out but still the same.

I am just hoping I will not have to ask everyone to remove me and re-add me
back with the new address.

Although your message seems to indicate this may has to happen.;]

If any suggestions, don't hesitate to share&thank you for your time.

I got a reply from support:

"We apologize that the changes to your e-mail address are not reflected
in your account and in your contacts’ address books. To perform a
resynchronization, you will have to create a new Messenger ID, or
re-associate another e-mail address to this Passport Network account so
that the changes can be synchronized correctly in your contacts' address
books. "
"- Right-click the contact, and then click Delete contact ."
"In Messenger, on the "Contacts" menu, click "Import Contacts from a
File." If you are using Windows Live Messenger, click "Import Instant
Messaging Contacts.""
"Note: Each user who is listed in the Contacts file may be prompted to
add you to their contacts list"

WHAT??!!

I have to re-add everyone GOSH.

I am fine with this service not being able to synchronize or automatically
update my contacts' contact list (although I would not think this would be
such a big task technically).

However, I am NOT FINE at all with nothing on earth telling me this in
advance when I change the e-mail address. How about a message "Note you will
have to re-add all your contacts" other than "some of you contacts may look
offline until they sign in". May?? They are offline as hell and will never
get online without having to approve me again.

What an amateur stuff to do.

Blah.

Anyways, the problem is just gone with me reverting back to the old e-mail
address.
I had to confirm that again, but this time the e-mail came immediately and
everything is working perfect, except for the new pal who added me with the
new address, but I will sort that out.

Folks, do not change your e-mail addresses unless you want everyone to be
prompted to add you again with the new address.

Greetings,

Actually, this is only occurs in the event the process didn't work. In most cases, this
would've already just magically worked and you wouldn't have to readd anything and neither
would your contacts.

It could work if you try it again, although there might be something in particular with
accounts that don't work that they just haven't nailed down yet. I'm afraid I don't know the
details.

Hey Jon,

I'd be most ready to experiment if I knew someone was watching what happens.
But it seems "they" apologize and ask for re-adding my contacts so maybe I
will just leave it at that. Thanks for your replies anyways.
