another virtual pc question

Since as of yet I know nothing about virtual pc...
If I don't run it, does it steal memory from Vista... I don't want to do
anything that will effect Vista.. I do have 2 gigs ram and I don't use aero.
So far I just installed it on the Vista machine.. during installation it
said I was not running a supported operating system ?

and after I run the final setup, is that when I would install my XP disc ?

Virtual PC is light compared to Vmware (another virtual program) and does
not instal much. It does install a virtual network adaptor and perhaps some
DLLs,
but you wont notice anything...

Virtual PC 2007 can run on vista without a problem

You will install it inside the virtual PC ...yes.. there are tutorials for
sure if you look around on the internet.

Hi,

If you aren't running a VM, then it uses no memory. Virtual PC is only
supported on Business and Ultimate, but will run on Basic and Home Premium.
Once installed, follow the steps to create a virtual machine which include
allocating space and then installing your first OS (and in the case of XP
it's easy as all you do is capture the CD drive and follow the prompts).

microsoft.public.virtualpc is the best newsgroup, for Virtual PC questions.

No. When Virtual PC is not running, it does not use any memory. 2 GB should
be fine; I run Virtual PC on my laptop which has 2GB of RAM, and performance
is usually good.

In theory, Virtual PC is not supported on Vista Home Edition. This is purely
a marketing restriction; there's no technical barrier to running Virtual PC
on Home Edition. In fact Microsoft almost changed the rules a few months ago
and were about to announce that Home Edition would be supported. But then
they changed their minds again, at the last minute.

If you try to install Virtual PC on Home Edition, it comes up with that
warning message. But Virtual PC will run fine.

Yes. Create a new virtual Machine. Call it "XP VM" or similar title. Then
boot up the new Virtual Machine and install XP from the DVD, same as if you
were installing in a real machine. The process is described in the Online
help file for Virtual PC.

Don't forget to install the Virtual PC Extensions into XP, after the XP
installation is complete.
