they wanted to call IE7 for vista IE7 PLUS
while leaving the IE7 name for windows XP machines...

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/05/26/608255.aspx

It seems that while with XP they were going for simplicity and ease of use
in vista they went with the "mix everything up as much as you can so simple
things can get confusing"

And no im not talking about me. I know everything about vista..
I am talking about the average user out there who hava a superficial
knowlage of computers.

I disagree with you completely. They didn't go for simplicity in XP.
People just got used to it, and tired of spending time on telling
everyone else how bad it was. Take a look at newsgroups when XP came
out. Exactly the same whining about this and that and the other. People
didn't know the OS yet and drivers weren't available for everything.
It's the same all over again with Vista. I've been through all major
Windows updates (and Linux updates for that matter), and it's always
the same gripe when something new is out until the dust settles and
people find that they actually are getting the job done anyway.

For my use Vista is better than XP ever was. It's faster, more stable
and better looking. The important aspects of Vista is under the hood
(memory management, disk access etc.). And under the hood Vista is the
best Windows ever.

I still miss the up button in Explorer though! What's up with that?
People tell me I do not need it for some reason. I do need it. Where
did it go?

The "breadcrumb" system in windows explorer works like an up button if you
press it... its more versitle but as all things vista is non itnuitive. a
person can understand an up button but if someone does not explain the
breadcrumb fuctionality you dont know it and therefore you dont use it.
google breadcrumb vista and you will see what I mean.

there is an extension if you want to add an up button:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...up-button-too/

XP had a clear interface with silly but understabible colors... with new
themes based on msstyles you could make it look very cool too.

XP was not new exactly it was based on win2k...
but win2k was not a consumer OS.

Over all XP was a huge improvment over win98

and vista is an obscure and strange degrade to XP.. ugly in all aspects.

as for under the hood. dont make me laugh.. vista is slower by 20-50 % than
XP depending on your hardware...

the memory managment and other idiotic tricks like readyboost have no
meaning since the performance of the OS is clearly worse than XP.

Its NOT about getting used to something.. I test various OS for fun.. I like
the challange of learning new things all the time..
I learn new programs and get used to new updates on a multitude of
programs... I keep myself well informed..
and I am always at the razor edge of advancements.

and thats why I hate vista.. its a bad creation its a leap backwards... one
that belongs in the bin basket.

I'm not going to have the discussion again for the Nth time. But you
can't just say things like "%30-50 slower" without quantifying it. It's
a fact that Vista has better disk access and memory management than XP.

If it seems to be slower it may be things running on top causing that
like the Aero look. That has nothing to do with the core OS at all and
can be removed. One could have a discussion about what should be
included in an OS, but that's another story. I just remove stuff if I
do not like it and are left with a better core OS than XP ever was. And
then there are people who like fluff on top of their OS and are willing
to take a speed hit for it, or purchase more hw power to run it all.
They should really love Vista!

I've seen people argue against Vista using facts and knowledge. You are
not one of them.

Finally, I think Vista is the best looking Windows product ever.
Period!

I am basing my opinion on hundreds of hours of work time on vista and other
OS, experimenting, installing testing, etc.

What I am saying is a fact without even a speck of doubt.

sorry aero was meant to use the GPU instead of the CPU thus that cant be the
reason why its slower.

its slower because its overly bloated with insignificant things that you
cant disable easily.. believe me.. I have made a science out of trying to
get some performance out of the monstrosity called vista..

its a painstaking and aggravating battle...

Even Vlite cant remove enough things.. you end up with a hacked up machine.

Dual cores with more than 1 gb act strangely slow.. this just should not be!

server 2008 is faster when you don't install the desktop experience (bloated
trash) but still its slower than XP.

Vista is the worse OS Microsoft has ever made(*). PERIOD.

This is because of the way they are designing it...

(*)taking in to account the advancements of current technology Vista is even
worse than windows Me of its time.

Vista then go back to etch a sketch ok?

Has a monkey gone out of your but or is it you who inhabit the dark smelly
caves?

I will add you to the list of incredibly stupid vista newsgroup users. The
list is not very long but you deserve a space in it!
