Updates for Vista Ultimate Full stopped working for me soon after the
clean installation. Here are some of the ones that won't work:
KB931768
KB930178
KB905866 (March and April worked eventually Feb and May never updated)
KB929399 Took eleven tries. The date 3/23 look like about the time I got
fed up and stopped updating.
KB928089
KB930857
KB931573
and more.
The behavior is this: Windows Update announces from tray that updates
should be downloaded. Open Updates panel and authorize Install Updates.
Updates install, and Vista insists on a reboot. Reboot, and it asks to
download and install the updates again. If you view the history, you
can see that some of the updates 'failed'.
It appears that the best case scenario for EACH of these updates is for
me to hunt down the correct download (and for what it's worth,
navigating MSDN and Vista Support is near impossible. Search for Vista
Support, see how quickly you find this newsgroup), download the update
to a folder with a short path because I will have to open a DOS PROMPT
COMMAND WINDOW and change directories or otherwise specify the update to
be applied. And repeat.
This is, obviously, going to be quite laborious, and since that solution
probably won't work for all updates, and each attempt will insist on a
reboot, I am easily looking at a full afternoon's worth of hassle to
catch up my six month old operating system.
I would like to get most of this done in one sitting. Have updates
started working yet? From the questions in this forum it would appear
they haven't. When, if ever and if known, would be a good time for me
to catch up and expect the AUTOMATIC updates to work thereafter?
genuinely curious,
