It's offered free by AOL and is their licensed version of Kaspersky
AntiVirus. AOL is not allowed to alter their version and since it's
Kaspersky, needless to say it works *very* well at protecting a system.
Compare the results of Kaspersky and the the AOL version with that of
AVG here:

Suggest you use a 'throw away' email addy when you submit the
registration for it. Without getting the activation code, it can not be
updated.
The reason I suggest using the throw away addy is to guard against
possible spam attempts, although I haven't seen *any* evidence of that
happening ... yet.
