I am on a private network that has several gateways to get to the Internet
and I am receiving the above error after upgrading to v6 of the Installer.
Any help resolving would be appreciated

Hi lanman,

If you haven't already done so, have a look at this item from the Windows
Update Troubleshooter:

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the
0x80240030 error.

I tried everything to fix this error and none of them work.

The only way to get round it is to go to Windows Udate (it will default to v6)

On the left side select Administrator Options.
Then select Windows Update Catalog
Then select Windows Update (in the left hand colomn)
This will use v4 of Windows Update and all will work fine.

Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks Patti, this helped me!
I am on SBS 2000 with ISA 2000 running on the same box. After updating the
Automatic Update software, I got this same error. I don't use the proxycfg
because I am on ISA server, but after reading the article you referenced,
clearing my exception list and stop/start the wua service, it works fine now.

Thanks again, and I hope others will find this usefull.

While researching this problem, I came across this post. Solved my
problem as well. Interestingly, after about 2 weeks, the normal
update has magically started working again.
