However, there were problems with the Windows 98, 98SE and ME security
update.

---
Title: Microsoft Security Bulletin Re-Releases, April 2005
Issued: April 12, 2005

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-002.mspx
- Reason for re-release: After the release of the MS05-002
security bulletin, Microsoft became aware of an issue affecting
customers deploying the Windows 98, 98SE and ME security update.
In most cases, the issue caused machines to unexpectedly
restart. Microsoft has investigated this issue and has made
available revised security updates for these platforms.
---

There were problems with 2 patches, they have been corrected.

And individual users will have incidental problems,
I have yet to see a patch that installs on millions of Windows installations
worldwide without a single glitch.

You might want to assist the poster (4 lines below) who claimed
"Today's patches killed TCP/IP"
He runs a server farm of about 50 servers.

I had severe problems on 2 Windows 2000 Server boxes. The patches killed
the TCP/IP stack on both servers.

Running ipconfig gave no reply, unable to communicate, uninstalling patch
didn't help.

Updates downloaded for me and now my computer will not even access my
homepage or the majority of my favorites. I am furious. I had a heck of a
time getting to this site - NOTHING WILL WORK RIGHT.
I am a journalist and the Mac's are looking darn good to me. This stinks!

You need to do a system restore to before the update. That will fix it.
I've reinstalled the installer 3.1 and KB890923 update and will be seeing if
the problem comes back. If it doesn't then we know it's one of the other
updates. I'm running xp home sp2.

Thanks John, I have never had to restore the system, so I will need to figure
out how. In the meantime, the computer seems to be acting fine now. Doesn't
make sense, but I am glad it is running fine again. I'm praying that it stays
that way.

Were you able to resolve your problem?

I'm thinking about running the updates Monday night.

I still haven't run the updates yet, but i'm planning on doing so
tonight unless someone talks me out of it.

Have all the issues been resolved that people were having? I have a
Windows 2000 Server SP4.
