Any reason to install the mfr video card drivers for Win Vista?

Folks

A client is running some DOSish 16 bit software and sees no reason to
upgrade at this time. When running the software with the graphics
drivers installed on his laptop he gets "The system does not support
full screen mode." message. Which the software likes doing for
unknown reasons.

So uninstalling the graphics driver makes the program work just fine.
He doesn't care about Aero. He's happy with 1024x768 resolution.
He's not a gamer. So why not?

I agree, do you want us to agree with you or tell you that it will cause
problems. If so it might cause some problems if he goes onto youtube or
tries to play some DVD's. But he's your client, you should have enough
sense to know that this post is completely irrelevant.

Hmm, ok, so that was poorly worded. I'm wondering if staying with the
Vista default video drivers will cause any problems rather than
loading the proper drivers.

I'll try Youtube and playing DVDs to see what happens. Thanks for the
suggestions.

sorry, im just bored at work, none of my clients have any problems wit
their servers or local pcs, so im just trying to pass time again sorr
yeah check it out, shouldnt really be an issue, but i have no clue wh
anyone would want 16-bit colour on their computer unless they were i
safe mode

The primary app though is an old DOS based/16 bit accounting and
client billing records. They spend one day a week at a satellite
office where the clerk handwrites the receipts. Then they come back
to the office where she spends an hour entering the data. So it was
my bright idea for them to take a laptop with them so they could enter
the data while up there.

Youtube works. The DVD player that came with the laptop didn't work.
But Windows Media player did although the colours were somewhat washed
out. So good enough as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm sure he would've complained sooner or
later. <smile>

You keep mentioning "reputation points" and "tip the scales" but most of us
can't do that for you. Here's why:

You are not posting on a real forum as you think you are. You are using a
web interface that leeches Usenet posts and most of the rest of us are using
real newsreaders. We don't see what you do. If you want to participate in
Usenet, the better way is to set up a newsreader. This is very easy to do
and I'll give you information about that below. If you prefer to use a
forum, then here are two excellent ones:

Since you are using a web interface, you may not realize that this is really
a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to use
a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use
Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it. Here
