I am using a genuine xp pro, that has been activated.
I have also changed my system security settings, but to
no avail. will i ever get passed this damned WGA. I get
this message

Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error [0x80080206]
Why did it not validate?
It appears that your internet settings will not allow
the genuine ActiveX control to run properly, or you may
not be the system administrator of the machine you are
using.
We hope that you'll return later to retry the validation
process so that you may enjoy the full benefits of
genuine Microsoft software."

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Locate the 'ActiveX controls and plug-ins' category.
Enable the 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins', and enable the 'Script ActiveX controls marked
as safe for scripting'

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Medium", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Trusted sites",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Low", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

I spent several days on the phone with Microsoft regarding this same
problem. Bottom line is that some machines will simply not run ActiveX,
so you will never be able to get past WGA no matter how legal your copy
of XP is.

Microsoft told me the workaround, which is the following:

1. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Manage Add Ons.
2. Click on "Windows Genuine Advantage" and disable it under settings.
3. Close and restart IE.

Now you can do updates. However you still don't have ActiveX enabled.

I suggest going over to "http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp" and see if
ActiveX is "Not Supported" or "Not Enabled." If it is only "Not Enabled"
then you can probably fix the problem with the security settings in IE,
or some other way. If it is "Not Supported" then there is no fix that
Microsoft knows of.

I have a very legal copy of XP on a Compaq Presario notebook. I have
never been able to run ActiveX controls, either in IE6, or in Firefox
with the ActiveX extensions. It is not a browser issue. Nor it is a
hardware issue. It's some sort of OS problem for which there is no
workaround.

Out of curiosity, what type of machine are you having the problem on?

I have the same problem. I checked the website
"http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp" and the Active X was "Not Supported".
I have Fujittsu Siemens AmiloD1845 laptop with e legel copy of XP sp2 that
was already intalled when I bought it!
Do you think a re-installation of XP or sp2 could solve the problem?
