Any way of getting rid of the Advertising on the bottom of Messenger?

When I click "Open Messenger" on the Sys Tray icon I get the Messenger
window showing my status and other things. But on the bottom there are
irritating ads that are constantly changing. Is there any setting or app
that can get rid of these ads? Of course I can close the window but
sometimes I need it open. It would be nice to do away with those ads. Any
ideas?

Greetings Will,

The ads pay for the service and aren't that intrusive, so I'd encourage you to leave them
alone.

However, since it's going to be mentioned anyway, you can remove the ads using A-Patch or
Mess Patch which will patch them out of the client. Also, there's other options if you don't
want to patch your client, like using a hosts file to block rad.msn.com or Messenger Plus!
skins.

I don't see the need for the ads. Microsoft has enough money

I'm looking forward to truly accurate targeted advertising. Then they'll
realise that I'm the sort of person who is *less* likely to buy a
product which has been actively advertised to me. I prefer to do my own
product research, and purchase on the basis of my own decisions. I'll be
advertisement free from then onwards!
