My computer is now running Vista Home Basics but I also want to have X
installed as many of my music software are not compatible with Vista.

However, I am having trouble installing XP from CD boot. It gave th
error "SHSUCDX can't be installed" and the installation cannot start.

Is there any way to install both XP and Vista in a computer? I hav
done a partition trying to have one with Vista installed and the othe
one with XP. However, Vista seems to always require itself to be th
primary active drive and it always recognizes itself as the C drive n
matter how I rename them.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance

Have you tried running your music programs in compatibility mode?

Search under "xp vista dual boot"

Here's one hit:

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_v...step_guide.htm

It sounds like you've already done most of the work, but that you need to
configure a bootloader to determine which OS you start into.

I hope that you can find all of the XP drivers that you'll need. Some PC
makers are unhelpful in that, if the machine was never sold with XP.

I haven't personally dualbooted since I did it with Win98 and NT4. I'd
prefer to downgrade the PC to XP completely. As the machine is running Home
Basic, I doubt that you need Vista at all. (I've been running Vista X64,
mainly so I could use more than 4 GB of RAM. I hoped that the driver
situation was better for Vista X64 than for XP X64.)

You can boot with any number of OS's on one machine as long as each is
installed on it's own partition and you always need to install the oldest
one first and work your way forward. My record is 6 on one machine.

Vista is the 1st MS Operating System, where if you dual boot, the older(in
this case XP) Operating system does NOT have to installed 1st.

I'm dual booting with XP, but XP was already on the PC and Vista was the
second OS. There is one important consideration once XP is on the computer
and that is it will delete Vista's restore points every time you boot into
XP. There is a small registry edit to prevent this, see:
