I know this has nothing to do with Microsoft but I need help and I was hoping
someone out there can help me. I have a Compaq SR1150NX and my video driver
is VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP and from what I understand it's not a very good
driver. I bought a game that needs to support Hardware Transform and
Lighting to render all it's 3D graphics and my driver does not work with this
game. Any suggestions on what I should do? I have the most updated driver
there is from VIA/S3G for my type of driver. Is it possible to download a
totally different driver from a different company or do I have to stay with
the same company?? Or do I have to go buy and install a new driver? I
really have no idea how these drivers work all I know is my driver sucks!! I
don't understand why Compaq put this driver in my computer, why couldn't they
put in a good popular driver!! I hope someone out there can help me, thanks.

Hi Bakerygirl,

The driver is simply the software that allows communication between the
hardware (in your case, the onboard/integrated graphics controller) and the
software that is installed on your computer (including the operating
system). The fact that your computer does not have support for Hardware T &
L is not solely the fault of the driver that Compaq installed on your
system........it's due to the fact that your computer has onboard/integrated
graphics vs. a graphics expansion card. In order to play games that require
Hardware T & L, you would have to purchase and install a graphics card and
its associated drivers.
