Anyone successful with KB939653 installation?

I've seen lots of postings related to Cumulative Security Update for Internet
Explorer 7 for Vista (KB939653). It appears that those that have installed
it, later find that they now have problems using their IE7 (either accessing
the Internet all together, or not being able to view webpages), and find
themselves un-installing the update. Others just can not even install the
update. I find myself in the latter category . . . But, I now question if I
should pursue resolving the installation issue at all, if I'm going to make
IE7 useless at the end. So, my question is: has anyone with a Vista Home
Premium been able to successfully install KB939653? More specifically, did
Windows Update do the download and installation, and do you have McAfee? The
current error message I'm dealing with is 80071AA7. There is no clear cut
explanation for this error code. BTW, I am working with a Microsoft support
group techie.

An added piece of (perhaps) relevant information . . . The first time WU
attempted to process KB939653 (a couple of weeks ago), the next time I used
my notebook I found myself unable to use IE7, nor Google, nor my HP printer.
For all three applications, right after the booting-up cycle I received
"corrupted/unreadable program files" messages. With Dell's tech support I was
able to do a "Startup Repair" which fixed these. Never had this problem
before; nothing else other than the pre-installed software that Dell shipped
has been installed in this fairly new computer (3 months old). Is KB939653 a
'problem child'?

Look forward to your replies. Thanks!

Cause of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818

Which isn't resolving the *cause* for the issues nor sensful by any
means.
