Anytime Upgrade Question

I Have Windows Vista OEM 32 bit that came on my computer.
I noticed that the full retail version of ultimate includes the 32 and 64
bit install.

By now you have guessed my question.........

With the anytime upgrade to ultimate can I choose between the 32 and 64 bit
vista ultimate? I do realize that I would have to do a clean install of the
64 bit OS.

I would like to try the 64 bit version but would also like to be able revert
back to the 32 bit if the 64 bit doesn't work out.

If I can't then the 32 bit version it is as I need to join a domain.........

Thanks, JR

It's nothing to do with joining a domain, and all about whether your machine
has a 64 bit processor - if it hasn't (and as you currently are running 32
bit Vista, I would be very surprised if it had), then there is no earthly
use in even thinking about 64 bit Vista...

The Anytime Upgrade disc is only for upgrading to another
32-bit version of Vista. If you want a 64-bit version, you'll
need to purchase it. Example:

or

And is there any point in running 64 bit Vista on a 32-bit processor?

Did the OP state that he did not have a 64-bit processor?
Most new computers come with 64-bit processors nowadays.

Well I have just bought a new computer last week. I'm fairly sure it HASN'T
got a 64-bit processor....

It's not a matter of whether there's any point to it. It's simply not
possible.

Thanks for the info. 32 bit it is then.

.......and I do have a 64 bit processor (AMD X2) why else would want to try a
64 bit OS? Just curious on the difference.

Cheers,
JR

What is the processor model?

You may be surprised at how many systems actually are capable of running
64-bit code.

That doesn't mean there's any *point* in doing so, but many can do it.

It's an Intel Dual T2330. Can't find any definitive info (even on the Intel
site) as to whether it's 64 bit or not...
