Hi

I have a Windows Vista Home Premium laptop and I'm willing to upgrad
to Ultimate as I just bought the license for it online

But I'm not sure what upgrading actually does besides give you mor
features

Does upgrading delete your files
Because that's what I'm afraid it's going to do

What exactly does this anytime upgrade do other than add more feature
to your computer

Thank

Hi,

No.

A wise person always backs up critical data regardless of how safe a
procedure is.

That's basically it. The core of all the different versions of Vista is the
same, it's the version that unlocks the features that are available.

The only difference it should make is to enable the computer to log onto a
domain type network and a few other features not available to the
non-business license like the fax capabilities. It should NOT delete any
programs or data files but as with any change to the operating system you
should have a full and complete backup of data files and preferably an image
of the functioning computer before the upgrade.

See
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...s/default.aspx
for the differences between the versions.

No.

There is always a risk of such a problem, especially when you take a
big step like performing an upgrade. That's why it's prudent to have a
backup of anything you can't afford to lose.

That's what it does.

But I have a question for you. Why did you buy something if you don't
know what it does? For many home users, there is no particular
advantage to having Ultimate instead of Home Premium, and you might
not even notice the difference.

I bought Ultimate for my other computer because I need it for tha
computer for work (eg. the windows server thing and the complete backup
and I want to use it for my other computer

I just want to know what it'll do so that I don't take any risks here

I know the advantages, I just didn't know if it'd be a risk of usin
with all the work related things I have on my computer

OK, but now I'm confused. Are you planning on putting it on two
computers? If so, be aware that you do *not* have a license to do
that.

It is important to realize that upgrading an operating system is a big
step, and a big step *always* entails risk. I urge you again to be
sure you are adequately backed up before upgrading.
