Hello,

I'm working on a windows 2k machine with service pack 4. Logged in as the
administrator. Windows update will not work I get errors on exit with
0x80240020.

I am logged in as the administrator and have added registry keys according
to the MS fix. The "work around" for it is to let the machine update
automaticly. I thought that was working, and i was wrong. The machine is now
stuck on updateing the security update for MS Data Access Compenents
kb832483. According to the update history it seems to install this update
every day successfully, yet it is not installed. I tried to install it
manaully and it tells me (dahotfix.log) that the version on the machine is
newer than the sourse version. Is there any way to scrap the entire working
and start over from scratch... with out reformatting the machine?

Thanks,
Aaron

Error messages that you may receive when you try to download and install
updates from the Windows Update Web site, from the Microsoft Update Web
site, or from a WSUS server: "0x800704DD," "0x80240020," or both:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910341

Yeah, but what about Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components
(KB832483)??? The dang thing just won't stay updated. My stupid autoupdate
thing installed it 6 times today. (That, by the way, is what brought me to
this forum.)

Assuming this is not Windows XP: have you installed MDAC 2.8 Service Pack 1,
before trying the update 832483?
