I am not able to get AOL to download off of a disk. AOL and Dell (my
computer manuf) have both blamed Vista and dial-ups or Vista and AOL. Anyone
have any other suggestions? I see that some people have used AOL and Vista,
but how about the dial up component. I am in rural area and do not have the
ability to get anything other than dial-up. As for AOL, I use my account for
my business and have it all printed on my business cards and I am not
prepared to leave, so please no angry comments about AOL. I am looking for
some real solutions. Thanks.

Just because others have used AOL successfully, doesn't mean that you will
get the same results. Could be a hardware issue, could be an issue with
your antivirus, service patches, anything. Best thing to do is contact AOL
and they will run through how your system is configured.

Start by making sure you have a Vista compatible CD or download, right click
the installer and choose 'run as administrator'.

Terry48,

You can always call AOL and download the software from their website.
However, be prepared for the AOL software to basically take over the
functions and resources of your computer, just as McAfee and Norton/Symantec
do.

I understand the problem you have in not being able to have access to
broadband services, as you are living in a rural area (there's nothing like
living in a rural area, is there? Best place to be IMHO). I would make a
concerted effort to choose another ISP, regardless of your business cards.
Printing new business cards is much less troublesome than having AOL (yes, I
have used AOL in the past, just as I have used McAfee, Norton/Symantec and
ZoneAlarm in the past. I dumped them all and don't intend to look back).

I hope you solve your problem soon. Have a nice day.

C.B.

Another way - use another Dial-up, AOL now lets you keep your screen name as
a freebie

Have you tried any other dial up s, to see if it is actually AOL - or as
mentioned your firewall/Hardare ?

Okay, but if I saw a business address that used AOL, I would shun them.
