At the latest budget meeting they "fine tuned the Vista/XP mix". This means
that they are expecting to make more money off of the ostracized OS than
they had first predicted. Initial expectations were of an 85/15 split
between Vista and XP respectively. The new numbers reflect a noticeably
higher number, 78/22

Here's to hoping that Microsoft realizes they have a pretty good OS already,
and that all the eye-candy isn't a good enough trade off for the usability
of XP. Maybe they will change their mind about the XP retailer sales cut-off
date that is quickly approaching.

I for one will cling dearly to my precious copies of Windows XP, I may begin
venturing out and exploring other operating systems, but a lot is going to
have to change before I switch to Vista.

I don't have any problems using Vista, just like I never had any problems
using any of the other previous NT based O/S(s).

In some aspects, Vista already has changed under the hood. XP is just going
to be another O/S that's being used and XP won't have the features that
Vista has so that 3rd party vendors can implement their solutions.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/network/WFP.mspx

Over 10 years ago, they said the same thing about Win 98SE and that they
were not going to NT. XP is a NT based O/S.

Win 2K and XP had all kind of problems when they were released until the 3rd
party vendors caught up with those O/S(s). It's not going to be any
different for Vista. Some people will stick with XP just like some have
stuck with Win 95, 98, and 2k over the years, while others will move on.

Was I looking for Vista when my laptop died and I needed a new laptop? The
answer was no. Vista came with the laptop, and I have taken the time over
the last few weeks to see what was different between XP and Vista, and I
know XP very well both on and off the job. But am I going backwards to XP
now that I am using Vista. That answer is no, because I don't go backwards.

No one ever said XP was dead. Hell, they still support 2000.

XP support will probably continue for another 3-5 years.

Well said ... same experience with the laptop forced initial exposure to
Vista, except I personally stopped at Win2K Pro on my personal desktop
machine and skipped XP altogether. I've had to support XP in a minor way,
but still much prefer 2K over XP for the same reason for much of the Vista
bitching ... human nature's basic resistance to change.

It is notable that the things I didn't like about XP's GUI are much
improved, at least to my taste, in Vista.

The fact is I'm enjoying, and fully utilizing, Vista. The latter borne out
by a just completed design for an $80K kitchen done entirely on this laptop.
But there's 35+ years of computer based "perspective" as a basis for that
enjoyment/utilization. Having seen it all before, starting with Win3.0 beta,
it is apparent that most all the detractors are still wet behind the ears
when it comes to perspective based judgment of the issues.

oh my god... some people just dont have taste....

XP with the themeui patch or stylexp and a new skin is far better than
Vista.. they have destroyed the UI making it non user friendly!

Even better. Makes the OP look even more silly than he manages to by
himself.

In your opinion. Some of us think Vista is a huge improvement.

Some people eat escargot & think it's a treat too... there are scat
newsgroups complete with pictures.
Just because I don't partake doesn't stop you...it is all about individual
taste isn't it?
I think Vista belongs in the SCAT groups....
