"appear offline" won't stick

How can I set my Windows Live Messenger to always "appear offline"? I have
one profile that works (ie: ) so that whenever I sign in, I
always appear offline. Even if I sign out and sign back in, I immediatlely
show offline. However, my computer has another user (, for
example) and I can't get that setting to stick for the second user. I have
verified that ALL settings in Tools/Options (all tabs) are exactly the same
for both users, but I just can't get this to work for the second user.

Windows Live Messenger version 8.1.0178.00
Windows XP SP2

What am I missing here?

SORRY!!! Nevermind...the setting is on the main screen BEFORE you log in.
Then when you sign in for the first time after changing it to "appear
offline", it asks you if you want to appear online. Select the option that
you don't want to appear online and check the box to say that you don't want
to see the message again.
