Appearance changes after downloading Updates

Upon downloading updates on my Xp Home Edition recently, upon re-start, the
appearance of fonts, spacing, sizing, locations of icons, etc are all changed
from what I had before. This is a new problem. I have to go to System Restore
to re-establish things, but of course I am without the benefit of the
Updates...and the update needs to be reinstalled...hence creating the same
annoyance. Can I do something to get the updates and preserve the appearance
of my desktop and general look and feel of my system?

Thanks in advance!

You need to isolate which of the many updates released this month caused
your problem. Use the Custom option at the Windows Update or Microsoft
Update web site to apply the updates one by one until your problem appears,
then ask again.

I have the same problem. I have isolated the update download as Dell Inc. -
video - intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family.
